The Souvenir of a Stranger

The Souvenir of a Stranger

Years back, Wolfgang Lehrner purchased a stock of thousands of slides from a flat-disclosure. Their owner had deceased and heirs to the photographic inheritance were nowhere to be seen. The pictures found their way to a flea market, where Lehrner eventually found the pictures and placed them in his archive, carrying them from studio to studio every time he would change address, but always having in mind to work with them, someday.

For Quart issue 21, the idea was to join unrelated words and images, and to thereby create something new: The right-page written fragments become titles for the left-page images, the latter turning into works by this denomination. In this dramatically transformed context, the only parts left of the slides’ original attributes are their numbers.

A vista of the digital visual flood, void of time and place – a fragment of a stranger's life.
